Malaysians are as naive as Americans in choosing their leaders if the past 20 years is any indication of Malaysian astuteness in political matters. Before our ex-prime minister antagonises our neighbours and attacks the US and its president , I suggest he looks at his own sad track record.
The truth on Perwaja, Renong, Maybank, MAS, EPF and the billions of ringgit lost by these sick companies have never been revealed to the rakyat. We need answers and we need the truth. We need accountability.
We need current Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to account for all the losses over the past years and bring to justice those who have misappropriated funds. Not just token arrests of the small fry but real justice where real justice is due.
Enough of dancing around ministers who see their positions and ministries as their own mini-kingdoms. There are cabinet ministers whom Abdullah 'inherited' but if these ministers do not perform then he should sack them or ask them to resign.
The Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) should be independent to investigate whomever they wish and should be independent from the Prime Minister's Office. They should be allowed to report their findings to the King and press charges through the attorney-general against whomever they feel they have a strong case against .
That is, if Abdullah is serious about battling corruption and not merely paying lip service to it.
It is time to ruffle some feathers and upset some mini-kingdoms and the people have given him the mandate to do just that. Time is running out and the rakyat are growing impatient. Whatever prosecutions against corruption we have so far seen was before the elections and to date we have not seen any new arrests .
Was the public taken for a ride and those anti-corruption statements just an election gimmick? Many have begun to wonder.
