I refer to Astro Awani’ s article ‘Vape liquid is dangerous’ (Sept 19, 2015).

Despite a plethora of killer campaign headlines, anti-smoking advertisements and gory pictures on cigarette boxes by the Health Ministry, our country has yet to succeed on reducing the number of smokers. Smokers stated that smoking gave them the satisfaction and helps reducing stress. Apart from the short-term satisfaction, benefits of smoking have not been discovered up until now.

A few years back, we had been alarmed by the existence of e-cigarette in our country claiming it is the alternative way to help smokers to stop smoking. Recently, with the urging “vape on!”, it has grown to the extent that it is almost impossible to be at any place without bumping into vapers. Vape also involuntarily attracts non-smokers with the colours and various flavour thus contributed to the smoking rate.

E-cigarettes may not be as safe as they seem. According to University Malaya Specialist Centre consultant psychiatrist and smoking cessation specialist Dr Amer Siddiq Amer Nordin, there is no proof in saying that vape is safe for use. Besides that, the underage nowadays have also started to proudly vape in public. It is certainly not a good sight.

We had enough with the current smokers suffocating us for decades. I refuse to see any more smokers in future. This has to stop in order to live a healthy life and portraying a good example for our future generation.

Thus, I urge them to vape off!
