I refer to the letter National X-mas do - let's keep religion out of it .

For those who do not know the true meaning of Christmas, it is for Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus, being the Son of God, was born and crucified about 2,000 years ago as a redemption for the sins of all mankind.

I certainly do not agree with the writer's notion that the mere mention of the word Jesus would mean proselytising to the masses attending the national-level Christmas do in Petaling Jaya on Dec 25.

Without the birthday person's name being mentioned, how can we justify calling it Christmas? However, I agree with the writer that the coming event is a government-sponsored one and therefore we will have to comply with its set of rules.

Another bone of contention is CFM general-secretary Dr Hermen Shastri's lame excuse and CFM's participation in the event. As a learned theologian, how can he compromise the name of our Lord Jesus Christ just to please man?

I wonder if CFM is somehow ashamed of Jesus Christ and as such chose to compromise rather than uphold the conviction of our faith which will greatly please God rather than mere man.

He went to great lengths not to offend the sensitivity of the non-Christians and it's a wonder that he is not offended now that the word 'Jesus" has been removed form the Christmas carols.

I certainly admire the zeal shown by Muslims in proclaiming that Allah is great during their azan (call to prayer) but sadly, we Christian do not have similar zeal to even mention the name of our Lord Jesus Christ on Christmas Day.
