An accusation inside Parliament and fuelled on the outside by Umno/BN has led the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to raid the Penang chief minister’s office.
Most of you must have read the news about the CM purchasing his bungalow at below market price. There is nothing wrong in general but just because Lim Guan Eng is the Chief Minister, Umno/BN is taking this very opportunity to link it to corruption.
Beautifully drawn up flow-charts linking various land matters, corporate connections which they perceived to be behind the reason for the below market purchase. And even worst is that they liken it to the ‘Khir Toyo corruption case’.
And all these are the main news for TV3 and all Umno/BN-government-controlled media for the past week.
I am not here to defend the chief minister on whether he is corrupt or not since the MACC is now in full swing in its investigation.
The main point is Umno/BN is using this as a presumption of guilt to break Penangites’ spirit and support for the Pakatan-led government and hoping to recapture it in GE14.
If Lim Guan Eng can be jailed for defending a Malay girl rape victim, there is a possibility that he will be jailed again for this case if Umno/BN has its way.
Whatever the outcome, Penangites must not surrender Penang back to Umno/BN. More attacks are on the way and Penangites must be wary and not be taken in so easily.
We have seen so much progress being made the past eight years under the Pakatan-led government even though there are those who are not happy. You cannot have progress and at the same time not be willing to sacrifice a little.
Penang is now well-known worldwide for the right reasons not like the bad images from the PM’s mega twin scandals.
If you love Penang, please spread the word to all Penangites to continue their support for the Pakatan-led government irrespective whether Lim Guan Eng is still the chief minister. There are many capable leaders in Pakatan.
