Reading about the super special status of North-South Highway concessionaire Plus in the mainstream media is nothing new but it again reminds me how subservient the latter is.

In the few reports about public displeasure over the recent Plus toll hikes, their emphasis was given to the government's burden of having to pay compensation to Plus if the toll hikes are not approved.

Nothing is said about the hefty profits Plus is already making and all the special concessions given to the company to ensure it continues making money for God knows who.

Pak Lah can talk, and in time we'll probably see him for what he is all talk with not much translated into actual deeds that will really benefit the rakyat. The soon to be privatised national water management services will be, I suppose, another example of our government's generosity to give the well-connected a 100 percent profit-guaranteed venture.
