Kindly allow me to address the issue of GMO (genetically modified organism) food.

Biotech companies want to promote their GE (genetically engineered) food (using public relations, bribed officials and funding universities) saying that it is safe and even more nutritious than natural food.

Conscientious scientists and activists have been calling for a moratorium to give time to thoroughly study the long term side effects of GE food. Alternatively, we have been saying that GE food should be labeled to allow consumers freedom of choice.

Proponents of GE food will have nothing of that sort and with their financial clout, have successfully flooded GE food to worldwide markets. Only God knows what kind of genetic side effects this 'Franken-food' will do to our bodies in 10 to 15 years. GE food was slowly introduced into the world market from 1992 onwards.

I am quite open to GMO research when applied to medicine. Even in this field, GMO is not so necessary considering the fact that we already have scientifically proven, cheap, efficacious and non-patentable natural remedies.

One should not be swayed and hoodwinked into accepting GE food, confusing it with the acceptance of GE medicine. This is a common and very effective strategy used by biotech companies in their public relations campaigns, i.e. arguing for GE food from the angle of GE medicine (vaccines).

With Big Pharma suffering from the aftermath of Vioxx scandal; the current enquiry in the US Congress regarding the corrupt activities of FDA officials; the numerous impending individual and class action suits against pharmaceutical companies; there is left with only one course for Big Pharma.

It will - at all costs - use legal means (WTO, Codex Alimentarius, the European Union Food Directive and its connections with government) to suppress freedom of choice for natural medicine and to limit the availability of food supplements.

One should take note of the argument by a Queen's Counsel engaged by the Alliance for Natural Health in their legal challenge against the EU Food Directive, i.e. that food supplements are food. That our modern diet is (chronically) deficient and hence require supplementation.

That the hundreds of nutrients found in food supplements today are already found in our natural foods, hence absolutely no need to regulate supplements and limit them to the 15 ingredients in the 'positive list' as in the EU Food Directive.

That if there is any need to regulate food supplements at all, why not regulate cigarettes, coffee, refined sugar, junk foods, etc. which are perceived or proven to be bad for health? That the real danger to people's health are the pharmaceutical drugs that cause serious side effects - not food supplements.

The fact is Big Pharma is now heading towards total collapse and will use all means to achieve its ends. One of these can be clearly seen in South East Asia where they are using their public relations machinery to publish negative reports on food supplements by citing some questionable, flawed, bias, scientific reports.

Their modus operandi is to confuse and mis-inform in order to prepare the masses for an impending restrictive food supplement regulation in the months to come.
