It is apparent that politics and business - despite the much touted benefits of Malaysia Inc - will always remain an unholy and unhealthy mix in this beautiful and bountiful nation of ours.
Self-serving and egoistical politicians and unscrupulous businesspeople are certainly taking a toll of our quality of life; and in years to come, on our children's. Have this lot no decency, empathy, compassion and common sense at all? For sure the tsunami has become history for them.
Politicians have become utterly insensitive to the electorate. Well, they are politicians after all, good at making assurances and breaking them after getting into the seat. And they take us for granted as well. And they certainly throw every value out of the window in the name of development.
The destruction of parts of Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam is just another horrendous case. God knows how many more destructive development activities are lurking out there. Taking the environment for granted is part of politicians' job-description nowadays it seems.
That is why it is fine for the lot to say unabashedly, 'Semuanya OK'. And then the refusal to name the guilty who have abused the environment just says it all. The people must not know for there is something sinister, fishy and dirty to hide.
Stern action needs to be taken and the perpetrators of the destruction at Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam must be severely punished. Stringent laws need to be enacted to punish such acts of environment damage with stiff jail terms.
Thank God that Pak Lah is around to take care of our living environment for us as well as for future generations. If the fiasco at Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam had been exposed during the rule of the previous regime, the whole episode would have been swept under the carpet.
