“I have some kind of strange feeling of discomfort repeatedly which illuminates that my soul resides in different physical identity.”

This growing unease soundless voice of oppression among transgender people eventually turns them into major depression and sometimes leads to suicidal behaviour. This notion of identity crisis which is encountered by transgender gives destructive effect of negative self-esteem and sooner or later cause dysfunctional in family and society.

Generally, people’s false assumption about certain groups of people as deviant without acquiring adequate knowledge about them is strongly prevalent in civilised humanity. Certainly, this inherited notion about transgenders definitely affects the attitudes and enhances the feeling of stigmatisation among future generations towards transgenders.

Honestly, my earlier assumption about transgenders sounds similar to deviant but when I made a first attempt to acquire the knowledge about their existence, their suffering and their role in serving humanity all around the world, it marked a quantum leap in combatting my false baseless notions about them.

Some of my ideas, beliefs and understanding which I have poured out in this article might sound discomforting but it’s a concerted effort to express my opinion in regard to the evolving community called transgenders. I used the word evolving where I will explain it briefly later onward.

Before we move on any further, I want to provide some definitions so we have a nearly common ground about the concept of transgenders. Transgenders are defined as people with different gender identities and/or expression that may vary from conventional gender norms.

In this article when I write about biological sex it’s defined as gender assigned to us at birth, gender identity on the other hand is defined as affirmed gender; and finally gender expression which is defined as individual expression of their gender to the outer world.

Scientific discoveries about transgenderism

According to Doug Vanderlaan, transgender males contributed a huge social investment among hunter-gatherer tribes which helped to sustain the transgender orientation into modern societies.

Along with new breakthroughs, Francine Russo, a veteran journalist, writes in his article that the important new discoveries of Spanish psychobiologist Antonio Guillamon about the difference in brain anatomy of transgender people from biological males and females, and also named it “unique kind of brain”.

His notion about the individual biological sex and their gender expression strongly points towards biological basis without considering the element of environmental factor.

The evolution of transgenders

The gradual evolution of transgenderism from hiding oneself from the outer world in those days to publicly announcing and admitting that “I am Trans” clearly reminds me of the principle known as survival of the fittest, where the capability, courage and self-confidence of a transgender individual was the dominant factor of their successive generations in future.

It’s critical to understand that any individual or group of people who don’t have these progressive qualities surely can’t survive in today’s world.

Nowadays the transgender community are widely known for their humanitarian works in the eyes of the global audience. Prominent transgender activist of origin from our country, Nisha Ayub, has received several awards for her involvement in activism and also was honoured with the International Women of Courage Award by the US secretary of state recently for her boldness despite her traumatic experience during her three months in prison.

Trans way of life

The concept of transgenders in the perspective of religions is always considered unacceptable by most of the religious leaders. Several surveys constantly show that religious disapproval is the prime reason when they say being gay is immoral or that they don’t support legalising same-sex marriage. Most countries have rejected human rights laws seen to favour to transgender people grounded on their religion philosophy which opposes the existence of transgenderism.

Every religion has its underlying principles concerning the existence of transgenderism. Without relating any religion specifically, in my own philosophy there is a one common identity which is shared by the entire world population called ‘Human Being’. We are human despite there being hundreds of thousands of differences including our gender variance whether male, female, gay, lesbian, bisexual or transsexual.

The idea of being human should be strengthened in order to foster global unity. As far as we honour our creator by practising righteous deeds, doing no harm and showing empathy to others, definitely we will never turn away from the sacred vision of the creator of the universe.

Need for community’s acceptance

I write this article to rekindle equality and human rights in the face of rising discrimination that insults or offends the transgender community and attempts to draw a veil on their desperate need of social acceptance in the community. They are continuously evolving at a high frequency, therefore degrading them is a retrogressive step that will eventually create a huge crisis because they are our brothers and sisters who needs widespread acceptance in the community.

The perception of evolutionary psychologists about cooperative activity that was inherited from our ancestors ultimately plays a critical role in the gradual evolution of the human species. We should reassess our understanding about unity by being aware of the prime source of every existence and should focus on the goals and the mission we ought to achieve rather than find differences among us.

Accepting the existence of other with their perception of life without dogmatism is the first and fundamental challenge which we should deal with. Instead of negatively labelling and oppressing transgender people based on their outer layer of the physicality, move forward and accept them as part of our community.

If you have faith in social equity and humanity, bolster the practise of accepting the transgender people into your surrounding community and develop the greater space for all, and to fully explore and celebrate who they are.
