I give full credit to Wong Bak Man's penetrating letter entitled The Chinese schools 'sandiwara' re-run . I have nothing more to add to the subject except to point out that it is now high time for the Barisan Nasional to stop practicing divisive racial politics at the time when we are trying to promote the creation of a Bangsa Malaysia.

Indeed, we saw a similar invocation of sensitive racial issues and provocative statements being made against other races during the last Umno supreme council tri-annual elections. It occurs to me that during desperate moments, aspiring members of the BN need to stir up crude human instincts amongst their voting members in order to be endorsed and voted to important party positions.

During these crucial events, the more chauvinistic and racist you are, the more eligible you become to represent the party. Whilst during colonial times we blamed the British for practicing a 'divide and rule' policy, today we have the BN practicing the same tactic to cling to power and perpetuate their relevance .

This racial scare tactic is obviously very damaging to the development of a true Bangsa Malaysia, which is supposed to have a shared national vision and culture.

Indeed, the BN is a dinosaur that is holding back all of us in the past for its own selfish survival. If we are to allow them to have their way, we would all be frozen in time as the globalised world leaves us far behind

As regards to Mandarin and Chinese culture, we should not allow this to be a problem at all. Mandarin will become increasingly important not only to this region but also all over the world with the emergence of China as an economic and political superpower.

The Chinese culture is part of our Asian heritage and is an important component of the Bangsa Malaysia culture. Indeed, our future generations should be conversant in at least three languages namely Malay, English and Chinese.

Going forward, it is apparent that we can only place our hopes on the more enlightened professionals and NGOs to play a positive role in the nurturing of a true Bangsa Malaysia spirit.

Never hang our trust on the politicians as their concerns are for their own personal survivals at whatever cost. They are hypocrites.
