To do away with the provision of the law just because of one instance of improper implementation is a simplistic and unreasonable approach. Can we do away with ministerial posts simply because one minister was convicted for improper conduct? It's akin to is 'marahkan nyamuk, bakar kelambu'!

It is very sad that recent actions against Islam in this country such as the anti-moral policing memorandum and the proposed Interfaith Council (IFC) can only be seen to have had the indirect endorsement of the Islam Hadhari cabinet, although not in so many words.

How else can one view it when the conference to draft the IFC document was launched and officiated by a minister? Similarly, what else could it be if the minister who received the memorandum on anti-moral policing happily pronounced that he was also a signatory?

Indeed, non-Muslims have no business interfering in the teachings of Islam, in particular the basic tenets of Islam such as the provisions of the Syariah law. Unfortunately, non-Muslims vociferously claim this right through liberal Muslims.

But who are these liberals to question the provisions of the Syariah in its true form? Perhaps, if they are serious about improving the situation, they should study the true teachings of Islam from the learned rather than using their grey matter alone to interpret Allah's words. I am sure there will be a lot of support towards this end.

It is ironic that these people will do anything to go against Islam in the name of being 'progressive' and force their view on the silent majority while refusing to accept the fact that there are people who disagree with them.

Perhaps that is the reason they could call themselves sisters and brothers in Islam but not sisters and brothers to Muslims.
