Isn’t life a gift of God? But why are we not living it happily?
My life should be like how I want it. Yes or no?
One day, I sat in my room silently and started to think about what I have done since I born, and how is my future going to be. And I realised, actually we are living in someone’s expectations on our life. Hence, we don’t build on our future. Why should we live this way? Why do the decision we take in our life bother others? And why we can’t live without bothering about their comments about our life? Why?
For my life, I do have my own dreams to be achieved. Or I might see things in different perspective than others. I believe everyone is born unique in this earth, God would have planned a different pathway for everyone, but why can no one accept this fact? Why are adults still forcing the child to be like their neighbours or relatives?
For example, the parents want their son to be a doctor, because his uncle is a doctor. In addition, some parents pressure the child to achieve the dream or ambition that the parents couldn’t achieve. Or else, they choose a pathway for their child and neglect the interest, passion or dreams of their children.
Furthermore, some schools and universities are only appreciating the top scoring students. Being smart but scoring less in studies is a problem? Why? Can’t a person prove himself or herself with talents? Are only education, mark sheets and exams the only way to define your future and capability? Why everyone is going after a mark sheet and ignoring the wonders next to you?
I found myself to be more curious and interested in activities, but least interested in being a nerd to achieve top aces in results. Why is everyone penalising me, and pushing me to the edge where I feel like I am lost in this world? Where did I go wrong or what’s the fault of being someone different than others?
Is there any law or philosophy stating that, everyone born as a human must be top scorers? Why can’t we be an average scorer? Does a mark sheet define my smartness? Does a piece of paper change my entire personality and my knowledge? Why stress out students about the exam marking system, making us feel that education is a burden? Such as no good grades, no future.
Our results and future goals should be our personal affair. But why are people so eager about a student’s results and ambitions, and after knowing it, they starts to ruin the ambition of the student and push them into something that they doesn’t want. It isn’t their business. Because of certain unwanted comments of society, and due to others’ expectation on the students, most teenagers are ending up in a field or career that they don’t want.
Do only educated people become achievers in life? From my perspective, if you love what you are doing, it is already an achievement. Not all educated people are successful in their lives.
Denying our own goals
Do a survey on students about how many of them are taking a course because they love it, studying it because society say so or studying it because only this field has jobs. Society is being cruel nowadays, because of society many people are afraid to raise their voices for what are they seeking for in life. Because our mentality says, “It’s okay, I will follow them”. The public have lost their awareness of being themselves, and pandering to others by denying our own goals.
I am a Foundation in Science student, but I have no interest in what am studying. Wonder why I study this? Because this course has a wide scope, and ‘society’ plays a role, too. Previously, I was a science stream student, but it doesn’t mean I have to continue in this field. Yes, I agree that I can study and it have a lot of benefits, but why does everyone have to criticise me when I can’t score high, why? Getting an average mark isn’t a fault.
I want to study criminology, but my parents don’t agree, because society says it’s not the right field for a female. Without realising it, society is playing a heavy role in ruining the youngster’s life, because everyone is living by expecting someone to do something and they forget about themselves.
For example, last year I completed my SPM examination, then the results were published. People from everywhere asked me, what am going to do next. I told them something related to customs, criminology, photography, or something related to creative sites. From that moment, everyone started to discourage me. Everyone said I’m stupid, the decision I have taken is wrong, there is no future for me. All wanted me to study science, be a doctor or engineer.
At that moment I asked myself, isn’t this is my life and future, why are people making decisions for my life. At last, under the pressure of society I ended up at a college for my course on ‘Foundation in Science’. Yes, I am studying it, and getting an average result. Due to the average result, I am being humiliated by others. I have given my best, is that still a fault for getting such a result?
Society’s comment have become our mirror, just like it reflects us, so that we know what to do next. It’s definitely wrong. You should stand in front a mirror and ask yourself what to do next, so you will get the reflection of yourself and a right answer, not others! Some unwanted and indirect mockery made students out to be the victim of pressure and stress. We should think before we talk or judge others. Society means everyone except you.
I wish society could be more aware of what are they doing. And parents should talk to their children to know their ambition and goals. Be responsible and navigate your children into the pathway they wanted, for their successful and happy life. Students must be brave to stand up for your rights in education and life. There are no people who fail in life, there are only people who have chosen a wrong career in life and lost.
