I want to see malaysiakini charged in court for the April Fool's prank. Picture the scene in court...
After searching high and low, maybe malaysiakini will be charged with 'taking the Mickey' out of the political elite. If such a law does not exist, it will be rushed through Parliament in record time.
In court, malaysiakini will be asked to defend themselves. It will produce time-dated Internet pages of the two reports which clearly showed the few minutes lapsed between the prank and the real story coming out. Then the question will be asked: why those who got offended did not read the stories in full.
Then this 'marginal entity' will produce newspaper reports and TV footages on the so-called 18 cases involving VIPs that was highlighted last year.
The question will then be asked: if malaysiakini was deliberately lying and creating distrust in the government, then those 'politicians' who talked about the 18 VIPs anti-corruption cases would also be deliberately lying as well.
Faced with the overwhelming foolishness of the action against malaysiakini, the attorney-general will send his most junior officer to postpone the case indefinitely, which will then die a natural death, like the Petrof affair where no action was taken but some of malaysiakini's computers were never returned.
Once the charade is over, the media will then start their offensive charm on the non-functioning traffic light in Sepang and the international success of Siti Nurhaliza in Albert Hall (although the majority of those who attended the concert were Malaysians, with some making the trip from Malaysia).
And it will be business as usual for the land of fools (or at least some of them).
Editor's note : While there appeared to be a three-minute gap between the first April Fool's report ( Three ministers, one MB to face graft charges - 10.18am) and the second 'clarification' report ( Who are the Gang of Four? - Some clues - 10.21am), both reports were uploaded live at the same time. The time-stamp on the two reports recorded the time when they were created and saved in malaysiakini servers. In this particular case, we have held back the first report until the second report was created and both were made simultaneously accessible to readers shortly after 10.21am.
