  • US President George Bush and his administration have been preaching 'moral clarity' in international relations but its silence and inaction on the issue of Japan's attempt to rewrite its school textbooks in order to whitewash Imperial Japan's crimes against humanity in World War II do not suggest that the US practises what it preaches.

How can the US be occupying the moral high ground and be claiming to be see the world with 'moral clarity' when its closest Asian ally is suffering from moral confusion and entering again - an age of moral darkness?

The US has already lost the trust and respect of the Muslim world and the Third World following its war in Iraq. It has also alienated its traditional allies in Europe like France and Germany as well as the majority of the European peoples.

If it continues to close one eye to Japan's despicable attempt to whitewash its WWII history, the US will certainly lose whatever goodwill it still has among the Chinese, Koreans, Australians, Singaporeans, Filipino and all other Southeast Asians who refuse to be duped by Japan's right-wing nationalists and their remnants of militarism.
