Reading the report that a Datuk and his family obtained nine land titles while common people are still occupying Temporary Occupational Licence (TOL) land had me wondering how can such a thing happen at the Klang Land Office?

What is more galling is the brazen reply by Selangor state secretary Ramlan Othman to the issue: 'It is an oversight by the officer in charge'. What utter rubbish!

Any right-thinking Malaysian can smell from a mile away that this alienation of land by the Klang Land Office reeks of the stench of corruption. The Klang Land Office personnel are civil servants, meaning they are servants of the rakyat. In the process of land alienation, they are duty-bound to check the background of the applicants and if they are qualified.

As reasonable Malaysians, we accept that the Land Office are manned by people, and people do make mistakes. But when we have nine parcels of land being alienated to a single family, then it is absolute nonsense.

I do hope the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) would do a full investigation into this matter. I suggest that the Selangor menteri besar immediately act to suspend the whole gang in the Klang Land Office forthwith.

Perhaps there are no provisions under the National Land Code to cancel the alienation of a parcel of land. That is because the lawmakers at that time did not imagine such mistakes could happen.

I say the police or the ACA must investigate in this for if malpractice is found, it only follows that the courts can make an order to cancel the entry in the land title register.

I am sure all Malaysian would like to hear the reasons, why this Datuk and his family are so special to be entitled to nine parcels of land when they were never even part of the 'Revolusi Hijau' programme in 1981.

What we need to know is how the officer-in-charge of the Klang Land Office could possibly have the power to decide on who the land is alienated to. Could the menteri besar of Selangor explain how this could happen and whether his or his officers are aware of the matter or not. And if not, why?
