I can understand where The Enforcer is coming from when he questions the enforcement of laws by local enforcement agencies. I see the same total lack of action happening in another incident being played out right now.

A very popular 'mamak' stall that operated for years on the sidewalks of Jalan Titiwangsa (near Taman Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur) moved without warning to the very narrow Lorong Titiwangsa 5 two weeks ago.

In doing so, he has brought traffic congestion, damaged road shoulders, rats and rubbish to a previously quiet lane. There is no drain where he is operating and his customers block up the entire lane at times and park haphazardly in front of properties on that road.

Despite complaints and a letter to City Hall, there has been no visible action. As a matter of fact, City Hall personnel, including enforcement officers, patronise the stall daily. All this makes me wonder what exactly the enforcement officers are enforcing, who their 'true' masters are and just what it will take to get some real action at the local level.

When can we have local council elections? Even an authority as young as Palestine has local council elections. Why can't our 40-year-old country have such elections? For sure, we'll get some enforcement done then.
