After so much hue and cry over the Edmund Terence Gomez affair , none of those in power have showed any concern. Pak Lah acts as if nothing has happened even though the whole world is abuzz over the treatment meted out to Gomez.
The minister of higher education too does not show any concern. My gut feeling is that since most of the complaints were aired in malaysiakini , they were quietly ignored as this online media - the only one that dares report the truth - is not recognised as mainstream.
My question is what happened to the mainstream journalists of our local media? None of them dared to ask Pak Lah or the minister any questions regarding the Gomez affair during the many press conferences that they had attended.
By the looks of it, Gomez has lost the battle. My very frank advice to him is not to return to where he is not welcome. He should go to where he can excel and be very much appreciated.
There were many talents like him who were forced to leave for foreign soil. Most of them really made it big there. The classic example is Vijay Singh , a rejected Malaysian permanent residence applicant, who went on to become the number one golfer in the world.
Gomez, with blessings from God, I believe you can make it big overseas. Maybe, with a bit of luck, the likes of you or Prof KS Jomo could one day be nominated or even win the Nobel Prize for economics.
When such a thing happens, I hope our Malaysian media will not shamelessly splash headlines like, 'Malaysian-born Jomo nominated for Nobel Prize' or 'Ex-UM lecturer heads Nobel Prize nominees list'.
I would be too ashamed to read it.
Good luck.
