I feel duty bound to reply to the letter A generation of angry, bitter Malaysians .

I feel the writer is being unfair to the bumiputeras whom he insinuate as being very happy with the Public Services Department's (JPA) distribution of scholarships to the recent high achievers of the 2004 SPM examinations.

I think the writer has only been reading the The Star which obviously would not highlight the plight of bumiputera students. For his information, there are quite a substantial number of straight As bumiputera students who have not been awarded JPA scholarships . Most of these students come from the rural areas and they do not have the means to bring their grievances to the mainstream media.

The unfortunate Chinese students, however, are aided in their plight by several active organisations like the MCA Public Complaints Bureau. I have not heard of an Umno Public Complaints Bureau which is as active as the MCA's .

Moreover, the bumiputeras, especially the Malays from the rural areas, are known to be very obedient and passive and normally would not make a hue and cry over issues like the unfair awarding of scholarships.

For the information of your readers, I personally know the case of my daughter's bumiputera classmates who scored 13 As at her boarding school but was not awarded a scholarship. They are others who are the sons and daughters of the poor padi farmers, rubber tapers, policemen and soldiers. People who do not have any 'connections'.

Who is going to highlight their plight?
