At the party's recent meet, Ustaz Abdul Hadi Awang, the PAS president, admitted failure when it came to leading the opposition front. This is a big change. It is really great for a man of his background to finally own up to a fact that everybody else knew.

The reformation of PAS will take off well now because it began with the admission and acceptance of failure. This was confirmed when from within, a 'tsunami' for change created the party's new line-up.

Will PAS now be better prepared to take on the Barisan Nasional? No, not on its own and this is why Hadi threw his support behind Anwar Ibrahim to lead the opposition front.

But this has met with opposition from DAP's Karpal Singh who said that his party should lead the opposition. Really, history clearly shows that the Karpal-Hadi feud is the cause of the opposition front's repeated political humiliation over the years.

Due to the fact that these two were constantly at loggerheads, the Barisan Nasional was handed easy wins on a silver platter at every general election. The more these two opened their mouths, the more easily BN made inroads.

And today we have BN in parliament with the largest majority ever with the opposition as impotent as ever. Thank God, Hadi has come to his senses. It is now the DAP's turn to elect a younger generation of leaders so that together with PAS and Keadilan they can create a formidable opposition front.

They need to convince Malaysians in general that they are a well-organised, effective and trustworthy alternative to the BN. We really need to save Malaysia from the serious rot it is in thanks to the BN.

Given the putrefaction within BN government, a complete turnaround in the next general election results is indeed to be expected. More so if Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak rides the wave his cousin brother Hishamuddin Hussien Onn is quietly organising not the least by smartly placing Umno Youth leaders in key areas of the Abdullah Ahmad Badawi administration.

Abdullah's supporters are quite ill at ease. The storm is brewing. While the PM is busy traveling for his international assignments, Najib is running the Cabinet. The rest you can imagine for yourself ...
