Donald J Trump may be the president of the world’s most powerful country. But whether he likes it or not, he must remember the United State (US) is still very much a country based on the constitution, the separation of powers, the rule of law and the 4th estate.

Be bold and brash as he may, I think he will face reality soon.

Right now, many are attracted to him because of his prowess in business and mega deals. However, a successful billionaire does not ipso facto make a good government leader. Formulating and instituting sound public policies is different from making mega business deals.

He is good in making rhetoric that resonates with the people - build that wall, bring the auto jobs home, ban the Muslims, and throw ‘bait’ at the Christians. With time, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I must admit I am writing this piece based on common sense and zero privileged information. With time, we can all be proven right or wrong and so be it.

First, how did the idea of building a 3,200km-long wall at the Mexican border come about? No one has ever asked whether the wall will ever solve the illegal migrant problem in the US. You know what (and pun intended); I think ‘annexing’ Mexico and making it into the 51st state of the US would be easier than building that wall.

Do they have statistics on Mexicans running across the border? Would I be wrong if I say the majority of Mexicans have entered the US legally through proper immigration checkpoints and then disappear as illegal aliens while in the US? I don’t know; are they trying to build a 3,200km-long wall to solve 20 percent of its immigration problem?

Then Trump talked about diverting auto investment from Mexico back to the US. GM, Ford, Chrysler, and Toyota were all told to relocate their new auto plants, failing which high border tax will be imposed on cars made in Mexico.

Sound good so far, but have they ever considered that cars produced in the US will be as competitive and as good quality as those produced in Mexico? We watch, soon I think the US consumers will be making the loudest noise for getting lousier cars at higher prices. The proposed high border tax will be paid by Americans, not Mexicans.

What about travel ban imposed on certain Muslim countries? Have they thought through the problem and incorporated all the exceptions and extenuating circumstances? Have they considered the likely legal and constitutional challenges?

It would appear everything is done the cowboy way - shoot first and talk later. They are least concerned with the chaos and uncertainties created throughout the world. Does this sound like a thoughtful administration and adept leadership to us?

Third, the world will always be in a tussle between liberalism and conservatism. Sometimes we move too far to the left and sometimes too far to the right for our own good. Extreme direction on either side will be met with backlash. I think too much of ‘liberal baloney’ in recent times has riled up the people. Trump is good in seeing this and has exploited the conservatives and the Christians to his advantage.

A good administration is one able to find the middle path. But I don’t think Trump is interested in doing that. I just hope that Christians and the conservatives are not gullible enough to swallow the ‘bait’, hook, line, and sinker.
