I couldn't agree more with the letter by Rudi Sofian entitled Racial profiling goes both ways , in particular his comment '... we should be fair and reasonable on all accounts all the time'.
Let us do this and let democracy prevail. Every single resident in Malaysia knows that non-Malays in Malaysia are not given equal opportunities by the democratically-elected government and so have to struggle to help themselves.
Based on whatever meagre assistance they get from the government and with their own funds or donations, the non-bumiputeras often have to settle for cheaper alternatives. Thus the issue of Crimea State Medical University , for example.
Since non-bumiputeras do not have the same opportunities for study at local universities, they have to find seek other places where they will be able to study. Even here, some in Umno are unhappy.
Why don't we all take Rudi's comments very seriously and begin first by doing a detailed study on where exactly every ringgit of the Malaysian budget goes to. If this is done along racial lines, we shall be able to see clearly how much of the budget that all Malaysians contribute to equally is being spread unequally among the different races.
Let's all see how much of the budget's total is awarded to bumiputera companies in the form of 'negotiated' and 'open but managed' tenders, how seats in colleges are awarded among the various races, how many Approved Permits are awarded to non-bumis, how government scholarships are divided among the races, the numerous other perks like top management positions in listed companies and government-linked companies (GLCs), the number of non-bumiputera staff in GLCs, in Petronas, etc. The list is endless.
Let's provide a small budget to an independent consultant to determine the above issues and then we can implement what Rudi has gallantly requested in that '... we should be fair and reasonable on all accounts all the time'.
I am proud to have Rudi as my fellow citizen.
