I read with interest on the numerous letters regarding the pros and cons of legalising the oldest professions in this world as a mean for men with lust on their minds to satisfy their pleasure of sex.
One has to admit no matter how morally and religiously wrong this flesh trade is, it is here to stay until Doomsday, as it is a necessary evil to curb men's lust. Our cities and the outskirts are now flooded with 'call girls' who seem to be made up of locals as well as foreigners. Numerous raids by the authorities seems to failed to stop this vice from spreading it wings.
Normally they ply their trade at budget hotels. But even five-star hotels and private apartments are known to have expensive 'call girls' to service their rich clients. Nightclubs with Guest Relations Officers (GROs) who double as part-time prostitutes are another place where men search for women for sex.
The pimps are raking big profits from their harlots. This vice has caused marriages to break down not forgetting the spread of other diseases such as Aids, herpes and syphilis. It doesn't seems fair to see the 'call girls' being paraded like common criminals when they are caught in vice raids while their clients and pimps go scot-free for their crime.
One has to admit also that some of these modern harlots are involved in the trade not by their own choice but they were tricked by syndicate members in the flesh trade. These type of individuals need our support to get out of the trade and they shouldn't be ostracised. Unlike others who are there willingly to earn money to pay their bills
It takes two to tango and as long as there are demand, there will be supply. To eradicate the vice trade totally is a futile exercise, as it would go underground. The government should try to restrict their activities to certain red light districts and their clients should practise safe sex by using condoms.
It takes a morally upright and religious person not to patronise this type of trade but we are living in an imperfect world where vices are now the norm and where needles and condoms are given to drug users to stop the spread of Aids. Therefore, legalising prostitution with better medical attention to all involved should be encouraged to stop Aids and other fatal disease from spreading.
Even squeaky-clean Singapore has brothels for lustful individuals to patronise and their prostitutes are required to go for a medical check-ups regularly.
Whether you like it or not, the oldest profession in the world is here to stay as long as men are morally and religiously weak. If you cannot beat it, the least you can do is regulate them to control the damage.
