To add to letter MCA elections: No need for support pledges , please allow me to offer my opinion.

Recently, there have been many MCA state leaders declaring their support for MCA chief Ong Ka Ting for the upcoming party polls. I find these declarations suspect because all MCA state leaders were appointed by the MCA chief personally and not elected by their respective state MCA members.

Because their position as state leaders is at the pleasure of Ong, any declaration of support from them on behalf of party members is dubious unless it is their own personal declaration.

Since these MCA state leaders were all appointed by the party chief - who is now being challenged - they should refrain from declaring their state's support during the period leading up to the party's general election. Their declarations should be limited to their personal capacity as an ordinary MCA member.

All MCA state leaders are where they are to act as representatives to MCA's central leadership. They do not represent the MCA members of the state and in fact, are not MCA state leaders in the true sense of the word. They are rather personal envoys of the MCA president.

However, in these exciting times of MCA's first free elections in over 20 years, many of them have forgotten this and now claim to represent MCA members who never gave them permission to do so.
