Although Non-Malay Bumi's letter Where are the APs for bumiputeras? is short, it is to the point.

The AP scandal has shown that not all bumiputeras are beneficiaries of Umno's system of race-based affirmative action. Only a very tiny group of cronies are given the privileges.

Furthermore, if we read more closely into the AP list, not even all the Malays are beneficiaries of the Umno system.

The majority of Malay teachers and academics, taxi drivers, policemen and women, farmers, fishermen, soldiers, junior government servants and other working classes are also the 'out groups' like the Chinese, Indian, Kadazan, Murut, Bajau, Iranun, Iban, Bidayuh, Melanau and Orang Asli Malaysians.

There are also no PAS or Keadilan leaders on the AP list.

What does this mean? It means that Umno is not so much a party for the Malays as such but of just a handful of Umnoputras who try to pass themselves on as champions of all Malays.

And while they do this, they greedily monopolise all the wealth, income and economic opportunities that should have been shared more equitably amongst all Malaysians, irrespective of race and religion.

It is time Malaysians see the issue from the perspective of class analysis, rather than from racial angles.
