The resignation of Zaki Azmi from his post of deputy chairman of the disciplinary committee of Umno should be the yardstick top guns in the party use when faced with personal problems which can affect the party's public image.
Leaders should know that their lifestyles are public fodder and any controversy which can affect their performance should not be allowed to interfere in their party and government posts. They should resign and nip the problem in the bud rather than hanging on to power and allowing the controversy to fester.
Although the problem Zaki faced was a private matter, the proactive decision he took shows that he is man of principle who did not want to drag the party that he represented into the mud due to personal affairs (a simmering divorce case).
Presently, we have a top leader in Umno who is embroiled in the thick of controversy but who doesn't seem to get the message that the party's image will be affected if she does not resign voluntarily.
Hopefully, she will follow the road taken by the deputy chairman of the Umno disciplinary committee to save the party form future embarrassment. Do the needful if you love the party that you represent, as your service is untenable due to your lack of integrity and honesty with regards to your work. Nothing short of your removal of office will appease the crowd.
