It makes me very sad to read A Doctor's letter , "Local healthcare? Not for me..."
My family members and I have also been subjected to similar bungling, not only at government hospitals, but at private hospitals as well.
Once, I had considered suing a private hospital for almost killing me, but found out that one could not sue a doctor for incompetence if he had done his best. If his best was not good enough, well, that's just too bad.
Even more difficult is to question the doctor's judgement, particularly if he had followed every protocol in the book, but still caused you harm because he lacked the experience or ability to judge every case on its own. And because he followed the book to the letter, there is no basis to accuse him of negligence.
I feel very disappointed that when I go to the hospital with an illness, I leave it even sicker than before (and poorer too). I am in fact paying the doctor to hurt me. And I'm told that I cannot sue them for all the pain and suffering they caused, and the income I lost because I could not even get out of bed for more than a month, thanks to them.
In a nutshell, I get the short end of the stick and there's nothing I can do about it. What kind of medical system is this? What happened to the Hippocratic oath? Or is that the hypocritic oath?
Still, the least I could do was to make a complaint. Whether they want to deal with it is their business, but I've done my end of it.
'A Doctor' should not be afraid of complaining. Why should he be worried that some higher-ups might feel upset? Should they be promoted for causing harm? What has 'A Doctor' got to lose? He has already almost lost his wife and child.
