I refer to your report Irene Fernandez wins alternative Nobel prize on the due recognition given to Irene Fernandez's long-term work against violence against women and justice for migrant workers.
With this internationally-acclaimed and prestigious award, she can now take satisfaction and comfort in the fact that those who know her work truly respect, appreciate and admire it.
The award's international jury has now shown that a Malaysian - convicted in her own country over a charge which has specific connection to her championing justice - is worthy of international praise for her tireless work
Ordinary Malaysians reading their daily newspapers were not shown this perspective of Irene Fernandez and Tenaganita. Herein lies the tragedy of armchair critics fed by the mainstream news media who are more afraid of the government in power than concern for the truth.
If only these armchair critics would take the trouble to accompany Fernandez and her team to the shelters for women and detention centres for migrant workers, we would have seen and heard the real story, the true Irene Fernandez and her relentless mission to bring justice to women and migrant workers.
Compare what she is doing to the sorry state of our elected government members of parliament and state assemblymen with their perennial study tours that cost us taxpayers millions and we will clearly see who are the real Malaysians who seek office out of a sincere wish to serve the people.
Well done Irene! You have done the nation proud. You are an example for our younger generations of Malaysians. God bless you and Tenaganita.
