Even as International Trade and Industry Minister Rafidah Aziz is recuperating from her knee surgery, her former mentor and the ex-prime minister just doesn't want to seem to let her go and accuses her ministry of a cover-up on the issue of a national status for Korean-made cars.

One tends to feel sorry for the beleaguered minister as she seems to be in the spotlight where-ever she goes. It must be lonely on top when your colleagues and friends abandon you in your hour of need.

It reminds me of the Shakespeare play where Julius Caesar was stabbed several times while he was on his way to the forum. I suppose Rafidah must have felt betrayed and humiliated when her former mentor (aka Brutus) of all persons stabbed her in the back not one time, but several times when she was down and out.

To think that she was the one who cried and pleaded the most when her former mentor wanted to resign from his prime minister's post. This must be a Greek tragedy in the making as the former premier still want to pursue the AP issue after all she had done for him when he was the premier.

But the former prime minister is right in asking how Korean-made cars can be labelled national cars and compete head on with our own national car Proton. Do you think South Korea will reciprocate in kind by giving Proton cars national status in their own country?

It also seems funny and ironical that the former prime minister is talking about 'transparency' and 'accountability' as during his watch, such words were taboo. Then, big-ticket projects were awarded without tender to cronies and corruption was the norm.

Sometimes, one also tends to wonder if his criticism of Rafidah's ministry is just a smokescreen with his real target being Pak Lah to make him realise that he is not being firm in dealing with corruption and abuse of power by the elite of society.

Anyway, get well soon Rafidah. Hopefully your political career and government post will still be with you once you leave the hospital.
