It is good that the question of the validity of the Bar Council's current leadership was resolved recently with the required quorum met and everything is hunky-dory now.
It was also reported that the Bar Council was looking at amending its rules for a lower quorum requirement for its annual general meetings. It was pointed out that the accountants grouping (MIA) only needs 100 members to reach a quorum although the membership stands at thousands and thousands.
I wish to point out to the Bar Council that Malaysian Institute of Accountants has fundamental differences in that the latter has no mandatory rules on minimum fees while Continuing Professional Education (CPE) is compulsory.
The Bar, meanwhile, rules in the exact opposite in that being minimum fees are mandatory and CPE voluntary.
If Bar Council wishes to follow us accountants, maybe they should also follow our rules in relation to fees and CPE.
