I am saddened at the drop in rankings of our local universities. Obviously it does not bode well for the future when our graduates do not match up academically with their overseas counterparts.

I am more saddened, however, that our government does not see this as a major setback, as so far there has been no hue and cry except from the Opposition.

I suppose from their laid-back attitude and 'silence', we can take it that they feel that they have somehow contributed to this drop in standards.

Are we comfortable with the fact that most of our local graduates will probably not make the grade in other major universities? If we are, then let's all pat the government on the back for a job well done in allowing our universities to churn out these graduates.

Never mind if they are poorly equipped and somewhat out of depth.
