The media has missed the point in its coverage of alleged abuse by the police in the naked woman ear squat video scandal. Sure it was public interest to publicise the case and with the pictures as proof. But most if not all papers and websites used one picture too many. This tantamounts to invasion of privacy of the woman.

Being asked to strip at the police station is bad enough. She need not have to suffer a second humiliation at the hands of the media which exposed her naked body in the most explicit manner possible.

DAP MP Teresa Kok, too, missed the point when she said in her blog that when asked by journalists for the video clip, she was reluctant to hand it over because it may land her in trouble. Now she has landed the woman in trouble by giving out the videos so indiscreetly.

It would be interesting if the woman should now sue not only the police, but also the media and Kok. In the absence of a Press Council, Suhakam should take this matter up in the interest of the human rights of the woman.
