I can't tell you how it annoys and disgusts me when people many of them journalists who should know better refer to our policemen as "our boys in blue". Not only is it wrong and inaccurate, it's also extremely dangerous to view cops as boys.

Think about it. Boys play with guns with diminished responsibility and couldn't care less for the safety of others. Boys goad each other to do bad things and then cover up for each other. Boys will be boys, that's why they do "what comes naturally", like taking delight in sexually harassing women and bullying others weaker than they are. Boys run wild, and when they are caught misbehaving, behave as if they cannot be held accountable for their wrongdoings.

So, why indulge our policemen and let them get away with the nonsense they do? By all means, call them by any other names (you won't hear a protest from me) but please, please don't call them "our boys in blue".
