It is heartening to read letters from our Muslim brothers and sisters agreeing with non-Muslims that injustice has been done to M Moorthy's family.

I have always believed that all religions are fair and Islam is no different. People who practice this religion are known for their humbleness and kindness to everyone. However, sadly there are many who profess to be knowledgeble in Islam but do not know how to put the teachings into practice. This is what happened to Moorthy's case. It is a case where religion was used as an excuse to deny justice.

Unfortunately the judiciary is to be blamed for making a mess of what could have been an opportunity to teach the people on how beautiful the religion of Islam is. But this is what has been going on in our judiciary for some time and I believe this will continue unless some clarifications and amendments are made to our present law.

It is equally sad to note that Moorthy was promoted posthumously to the post of sergeant and a sum of RM110,000 given to the grieving widow. Try as I may to be open-minded about this but I smell rotten fish here. It seems the government is trying to settle this matter by sweeping things under the carpet.

After all the controversies (not just Moorthy's), I hope that the day never comes when Malaysians say they regret being Malaysians. That would be a very sad day indeed.
