It is typical nowadays to blame any wrongdoing, actual or perceived, when it occurs in a predominantly Muslim country, on the Islamic faith itself. This is unacceptable. Even more unacceptable is the notion that Malaysia is indeed an Islamic state.

Malaysia is neither Islamic from a legal perspective nor from an economic, social or even political one. Malaysia adopts un-Islamic laws such as the draconian ISA and others which allow for indefinite detention, isolation from society, restriction of movement, confiscation of property, humiliation of individual and family and smearing of good name and reputation.

Can KSY detail to me which of these laws were inspired by Islam? Neither is Malaysia Islamic from an economic outlook. Our financial system is interest- based (known as "riba" in Islam) which enriches the rich and burdens the poor.

Malaysia also does not follow the social requirements of Islam. Muslim women are forced to work as prostitutes because their husbands refuse to pay maintenance and the Syariah court is incapable of implementing justice. The government also allows cosmetics companies to exploit women by brainwashing them that white skin is better and that wrinkles, cellulite etc will justify your husband practising polygamy.

And Malaysia is neither Islamic from a political sense. What was our government's reaction to the killings of Muslims in Pattani by Thai security forces? That we will help secure the border to prevent infiltration from Malaysia of "terrorists" thus completely ignoring the rights of the Muslims there.
