It was reported in that Education Minister and Umno Youth chief Hishammuddin Hussein Onn has a different opinion from the prime minister on the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) and was unlikely to support its setting up.

The prime minister - in his supposedly gentle administration - has in fact warned police against opposition to the IPCMC. Clearly then, Hishammuddin's stance is insubordination within the ranks.

Ministers from Umno have called for the resignation of the nine non-Umno ministers who tendered the memorandum on Article 121 (1A) of the constitution to the prime minister last month.

The circumstances of that incident are not quite clear. Internet sources have claimed that it was properly tendered for discussion in a cabinet meeting but it took the prime minister by surprise.

The IPCMC issue has support of all except sections of the police and Hishammuddin who spoke on behalf of Umno Youth. I believe this calls for his resignation.
