I am quite amazed by K Narayanasamy's simplistic understanding of the conflict in Sri Lanka. He operates under the assumption that the LTTE prefers terrorist acts, it eliminates moderate Tamil leaders, forcibly recruits young women and children and obtain hefty funding from the Tamil diaspora. He would like to see peace on the island-country, but for this to happen, the LTTE must renounce its violent ways.

Narayanasamy might have good intentions, but he is off the mark in analysing and recommending solutions to the conflict. While he is quick to blame the LTTE for its violent ways, he refuses or glosses over the criminal and terrorist ways of the Sri Lankan state - how the various units of the armed forces in combination with the paramilitary groups have killed and maimed thousands of innocent Tamils. I suppose he naively thinks that the Sinhala state can use force but not the LTTE. For him, the word terrorism is only reserved to be used against non-state forces. How clever and convenient.

It is alright for the likes of Narayanasamy for the Sinhala state to engage in all forms of violence against innocent Tamils, but Tamils have to bear all these. So if the LTTE fights back, then this is tantamount to terrorism. In other words, Naryanasamy prefers that Tamils take all the beatings, humiliations and insults because a defensive move might lead to terrorism.

He is also tight lipped on the atrocities committed by the Sinhala armed forces in the name of preserving the territorial unity of Sri Lanka. Over the last few decades, thousands of innocent Tamils have been wiped out, businesses burnt, women raped with many fleeing the country to India and other places.

So the LTTE recruits children and young women. This kind of information is only derived from the mainstream mass media especially those based in Colombo. There have been recent reports that even the Sri Lankan army has been recruiting boys below the age of 15.

If the Tamil diaspora wants to give money to the Tamils in Sri Lanka, it is their business. It is alright that the Sri Lankan government receives aid to buy modern weaponry to be used against innocent Tamils, but Tamils must not provide funds for the LTTE. If Malaysian Muslims can raise funds for Bosnians, Palestinians and othe fellow Muslims, what is wrong in Tamils raising funds for their own kind in places like Sri Lanka?

Prejudice against the LTTE does not enable one to have a broader picture of the situation in Sri Lanka.
