A 'half-bridge' that leads to nowhere which costs RM2 billion - is anyone in the government thinking? I thought the PM has made it clear that Malaysia needs to cut its spending on mega- projects, and he has indeed put a stop to many white-elephant projects since he became the PM. But is it the deputy prime minister who is actually in control of the country?

Najib Razak said, "If the negotiations are not successful, the bridge will become a half-bridge or scenic bridge." Why build such a costly 'half-bridge', which the deputy prime minister himself has admitted could be utterly useless?

Would it not make more sense if we wait until Singapore wants to do it together in order to prevent wastage of taxpayers' money?

Even if Singapore is willing to come on board to build the bridge later, would it be possible that the Malaysian part of the 'half-bridge' would have become too small, outdated or too old to connect with the Singapore part by that time?

Even if it could be 'scenic', what is so 'scenic' about that part of Singapore which could not be seen from other parts of the Johor coastline, and is this worth spending RM2 billion on?

It just does not make sense. If built, Malaysia would be the world's laughing stock as long as that 'half-bridge' exists.

On the other hand, if Najib wants to repay his debt to his mentor Dr M, he would be able to award nonsense projects to his cronies after he becomes PM which - judging by the frequency he keeps appearing on front pages in stark contrast to the PM's conspicuous silence on many 'heavyweight' news - shouldn't be that long.
