What about Anwar Ibrahim? He would be acceptable to the Big Five. He has expressed confidence privately that he can garner international support if he vies for the post but has disclaimed any serious interest by saying that he intends to lead the push for democratic reform in Malaysia.

Perhaps we could start a discussion as to whether Anwar as UN secretary-general would serve the interests of Asean and the East Asia region in particular.
