I wonder why letter writer Khoo Gaik Cheng and DAP members of parliament find it so hard to accept that the headscarf is part of the ceremonial uniform in some organisations like the police force and the Islamic International University (IIU).

Let's forget the term 'tudung' because this would give it an Islamic connotation while a headscarf is quite universal. I suggest Khoo, DAP women MPs and other ignorant Malaysians go to India, Greece, Romania and Russia and see how the women there use the headscarf in their everyday lives.

I believe DAP MP Fong Po Kuan is an alumnus of the IIU and although she was not obliged to put it on, she did, out of respect, wear a headscarf during her study there and convocation.
