I refer to the streets protests which seem to be a weekly affairs now especially after Friday prayers in front of Petronas Twin towers. The common people are voicing out their abhorrence to the recent hike in petrol price.
It seems to be a trend lately for people to be on the streets to protest about something and this is not only happening in Malaysia but also in Jakarta, Bangkok and Manila. But as much as I sympathise with the brave souls who risk being arrested and jail for their passion in fighting for the common people's good, they will not change a thing.
I doubt it very much the government will backpedal and reverse their decisions on the oil price hike.
The next general election is coming around the corner and with charismatic leader Anwar Ibrahim leading the charge and with all the scandals surrounding the present BN government, it would be a tough call for Pak Lah to win handsomely at the next polls.
Just vote with your conscience the next time around and God willing, if the people don't suffer from amnesia, we will at least be able to vote in a stronger oppositions to act as a check on government abuse.
To the street protestors, wait for 2008 at the very latest and you will be able to vent your frustrations at the polling booths.
