I refer to the letter IPCMC: Pak Lah's the boss, make no mistake by Seetha Nathan and wish to emphasise the paramount principle of civilian authority over both our uniformed security services, ie, the military and the police force.

Throughout Malaysia's history, it is an indisputable fact that the firm believe and practice of exercising total civilian authority over these two crucial arms of the nation's security forces had, inevitably, permitted Malaysia to avoid the pitfalls and near complete anarchy that we see visiting a number of our Asean neighbours which did not strictly adhere to such a principle.

As such, may I remind the incumbent Inspector-General of Police (and any other of his subordinates ascribing similar views) that, should they, in any way disagree or feel uncomfortable with the proposal on the establishment of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission, then the most honourable course of action for them would be to resign failing which /they should then simply be removed from office by the current minister of internal security.

The act of holding "briefings" for groups of politicians and media-lobbying to "win-over" such groups totheir view in opposing such an establishment is quite unbecoming of men-in-uniform who are sworn to uphold the constitution and abide by the directive of their supreme civilian authority, duly elected by the rakyat of this beloved land of ours.

I totally agree with the remark made by the writer which stated: "Pak Lah, you through your capabilities and your destiny have been chosen to lead this Bumi Bertuah. Please follow what the citizens want and not what the armed police want. You can be sure that millions of Malaysians will be ready to come out and stand by your side. Tell us when and just one sentence from you will bring out millions onto the streets in support of what you are doing. We will show them who is the boss (PM) and how much support the boss has."

We may be "silent", but, no one, no matter how "mighty and powerful" he may assume he is, makes the error of underestimating our capabilities when long-held cherished values fundamental to the well-being and security of this beloved nation are being usurped for the sake of maintaining a few tainted individuals misplaced "solace".

So, when are you going to make that clarion call to us, Pak Lah?
