Darshan Singh Khaira in Malaysia-Singapore thorns seems typical of some Malaysians who, having seen their country falling way behind Singapore in its development, and consumed with envy, seek to try in quite infantile ways to sabotage its neighbour's success. Behold! Another grand scheme to cut through the Isthmus of Kra!

I hope not all Malaysians are like that. Most Malaysians would rather that the brains of the country be gainfully employed in realising the not inconsiderable potential of the country's natural and human resources instead of constantly looking over the fence to see what fruit trees or beautiful flowers can be cut down to spite the neighbour.

The present prime minister is probably signaling the change in direction after he has cut all links with some of the previous administration's folly. The links - represented by that bridge too far - have been symbolically cut.

He deserves the support of all right-thinking, fair-minded and progressive Malaysians.
