'I went there to appeal of behalf of an agent who had approached me. I appealed to custom officials not to seize the timber, just compound the matter. The allowed size is 60 inches but if it was slightly more than that, just close one eye-lah, that s common.'

What an admission from a 'Yang Berhormat'!

Firstly, I wonder if the MP is as 'helpful' to every member of his constituency? If all were to appeal to him to intervene in their affairs with the authorities, would he do it? And what if they had conflicting demands? Whom does he choose to serve then? The easy answer to that would be those who serve his interests in return, isn't it? But let's just give MP Mohd Said Yusof the benefit of the doubt, that he would be able to meet everyone's 'appeals'. In that case, he would be doing a helluva job, so the voting public should keep him.

Secondly, the 'just close one eye-lah' attitude of the MP made both my eyes nearly pop out. It reminds me of a taxi driver's lament to me at the time when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi just ascended the premiership. 'That's it!', he had said, no more kickbacks or getting away with bribing officers out of anything. The previous PM, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, would 'tutup mata sebelah' but under Pak Lah's governance, 'dua-dua mata pun nak buka'.

If the taxi driver is still around today driving around on the streets of KL, I'm sure he would be pleased to discover an MP who shares his values.

The 'close one eye' era of Dr M has become so entrenched, no wonder Pak Lah is having so much trouble with reforming the government. The MP claims this is a 'normal matter'- flouting rules is a 'normal matter' to him and gives the analogy of speeding on the highway.

Ironically, it's the wrong analogy. At this day and age when we are expecting our police force to buck up, Mohd Said still thinks it's 'normal' to plead for leniency from the police? Hello? Why should the police let you go and not others? Heck, let's all drive at 150kph and plead for leniency from the police then.

No wonder there's so little support for the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) too

Rules doesn't seem to apply to the 'Yang Berhormat'. I wonder if he is speaking from the privileged position of an MP that he expects to get away with flouting rules established by the very same government he is in.

He is undermining Pak Lah's governance and should be booted out in the next elections. We really don't need 'Mahathir-school' types in power now that a new leader is trying his level best to cure our morally corrupt society.
