I am rather annoyed that the letter by one Ex-MIC Officer would stoop so low to defend S Subramaniam, currently the MIC deputy president. The writer is entitled to criticise P Ramasamy for raising some issues pertaining to the coming MIC elections, but he grossly exaggerates the significance of the role of Subramaniam in intending to take the MIC to greater heights.

I was a former MIC party member in the state of Perak but had to leave the party because some of us were victimised by the forces in favour of S Samy Vellu. We really worked hard for Subramaniam to come up in the party, but he refused to back us both at the state and district levels in the fight against Samy Vellu. Only then I realised that Subramaniam was merely interested in his own personal glory than the development of the community. At one time, he ganged up with Pathmanaban and Pandithan to oppose Samy Vellu. The only victim was Pandithan.

I personally feel that both Samy Vellu and Subramaniam are basically unfit to lead the Indian community. Samy Vellu has reduced the MIC to his own personal organisation and Subramaniam simply wants the number one job. There is one difference between both the leaders and that is Samy Vellu can be counted upon to back his supporters while Subramaniam has let down many of his supporters.

I also realise that people who are rallying around Subramaniam are doing so that for some later rewards. Honesty and sincerity are not the virtues to be found in the party. The MIC cannot do anything to improve the lot of Indians. Contests and meetings in the party are showpiece exercises, they do not reflect the sad reality of the Indian position in society.

I am no more in the party. I feel that my years of sacrifice and hard work have only been used for the personal glory of some leaders.
