I read with utter disbelief your report entitled Police attack IPCMC in internal bulletin . The report clearly states that as a sign of opposition against the proposed IPCMC, the police may be expected to let the crime rates rise or initiate mass resignations.

I also read the complete statement on the Royal Malaysian Police website by ACP Jamaludin Haji Khalid as chair of the Association of Gazetted Senior Police Officers Association. He details their dissatisfaction and some of their proposed responses to the IPCMC. Although the statements have since been removed, they are available here and here .

Jamaludin's statement is pretty long and I would like to recommend to Malaysians to please read it and make up your own mind about the state of affairs in this country. I personally felt that some members of the police force are holding the entire nation to ransom. It is either we scrap the IPCMC or crime rates will be allowed to rise. This is totally unacceptable. I also found some of the responses in the statement to be immature and irrational. A point in case is that if you allow crime rates to go up, everyone including family and friends of the police will also pay the price.

It is my opinion that most police personnel in this country are men and women of integrity. I believe that given the right training and knowledge, most of these men and women would achieve excellence and exemplify professionalism in carrying out their duties.

Unfortunately, there a few rotten people in the police force who believe that they can threaten the people of Malaysia. If this is allowed to continue, we, the people, would live in a state of constant fear from the people that we have entrusted to protect us. We would have a scenario that was similar to that of Hong Kong in the 60s and early 70s.

Come on Malaysians (including members of the police force) do you really want to be held ransom by a few corrupt police officers? Stop being so apathetic. These events affect you and your children. The use of excessive force against those who are exercising their

constitutional right to peacefully express their opinion affects you too. We do not live in vacuum.

And Pak Lah, where is your commitment to the people of Malaysia? We deserve a police force that serves and protects us without fear or favour. Implement the IPCMC and prove to us that you are not afraid of these few corrupt police officers.
