At its recent muktamar, the PAS president said that Islam is under threat and is being challenged by non-Muslim NGOs. Obviously, he was referring to the aborted Article 11 forum jointly organised by Aliran and others.
Dear Mr Hadi, you, PAS and all other Muslims can be rest assured that the position of Islam will never be threatened in this country. There are adequate protections in the Federal Constitution for Islam to be, and continue to be, the official religion of this country.
The main concern of non-Muslims in this country is for Muslims to understand the religions of other citizens in the country. Muslims leaders should avoid rigidity by misinterpretation or multiple interpretations of their tenets which make lives miserable for non-Muslims and those who converted to Islam. These people converted not for the love of the religion but for some personal reasons and material gain like faster promotions in the government service, for marriage etc.
Islamic religious leaders should understand the circumstances of conversion whether for the love of the religion or for emotional love or for material gain. When a marriage breaks down or when one has realised his or her mistake in converting for whatever reason, then this should be handled with humanity and love.
