I refer to the report Gerakan Youth Slams temple demolitions .

The strongly-worded statement issued by Gerakan Youth' s deputy chief S Paranjothy condemning various parties including the MIC and the AG's Chambers will not guarantee that the destruction of Hindu temples by local councils will stop.

Being a multiracial party (at least by its constitution) will Gerakan leaders - including its Youth chief - endorse in public the statement made by his deputy chief Paranjothy in public? Would Gerakan's top leaders like Dr Lim Keng Yaik bring up the matter of these Hindu temple demolitions to the cabinet for a speedy solution?

The answer is a sad 'no'because they don't want to offend Umno as they might lose the chief minister's post in Penang. Furthermore, it is an Indian issue and Gerakan can always claim that the deputy youth chief 's statement is not the party's official stand..

Based on the current facts, if the Gerakan-led government in Penang cannot even until today solve the transportation woes on the island, it would be a folly to expect them to protect Hindu temples from being demolised without Umno's consent.
