I am quite troubled with the 'quarrel' between the previous and current prime ministers. Dr Mahathir Mohamad justified his words by saying he only wanted answers to a few disturbing questions. May I also request answers from him?

  1. Why in the first place during his tenure, he removed the autonomy and international status of International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilisation (Istac) to become a mere faculty under the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM)?

  • How could he simply terminate the contract of the founder-director of Istac? (is there any similarity with Proton's Tengku Mahaleel's case here?)
  • Why did he abolish the globally-recognised Islamic studies course at Istac?
  • What was Mahathir's justification for management change over there?
  • The facts are that since Mahathir's above decisions in 2002:

    1. Istac now only has four deans and five deputy deans;

  • No new intake of foreign students;
  • Its recognition from world scholars has dwindled and
  • The maintenance of the campus and buildings have deteriorated.
  • May I request the answers from our Tun? Or perhaps Pak Lah would want to give the solutions?
