I refer to the article Ketuanan Melayu: False premise and promise .

It is a very well-written commentary. Very few people I do know in Malaysia who think like Dr Bakri Musa. As part of a large community of expatriates and Malaysians living in Bangkok, I find that we can learn a lot from our neighbours in Thailand.

Every day I meet people from all walks, ethnic Chinese, Malays, Indians and Germans, all Thai citizens by birth. Their parents may have migrated to this kingdom but they all feel united in one voice. The language and the cultures are very similar to Malaysia's.

They express themselves as Thai, more than their ethnicity. Why is it that in Thailand you do not find foreign workers working in restaurants, gas stations or as cleaners in airports or as cooks, etc. It seems that this society has all the ingredients of a success story waiting to boom.

I come across an accountant who learnt his craft at the local universities. Now, he doesn't speak much English but he does his job better than the chartered accountants in Malaysia or Singapore.

Most Thais are also proud of their heritage. They have learnt to live together with other races in unity and enjoy the peace and harmony amongst each other. There is mutual respect in that regardless of your race, you are a Thai first and that matters in Thailand. Why is it that a country like Thailand can achieve the unity that we Malaysians cannot do by ourselves?

Bakri has clearly hit the nail right on head when he talks about 'Ketuanan Melayu'. We should have more Malay scholars like him to speak up with great wisdom, wisdom certainly not found in many of our present Oxford or Cambridge -schooled Malays.

His article should be read by all Malays, especially our highhanded politicians who think that they are the God-like creatures though most of them do not have sufficient intellect. Let's unite as one Malaysia, all Malaysians. Then I think we will be a powerful nation to be respected by all.
