Going by what the prime minister said on the withdrawal of the Ethnic Relations varsity textbook, are we now expected to forgive and forget whatever happened in the past and never try to learn from history?
I can now make a definite conclusion that Pak Lah is a mere 'cop out' leader who only wants an easy way out and is not willing to make tough decisions. This goes to explain that soon after taking over he decided that he was not going to pursue the 18 high-profile corruption cases . So much for a big promise to eradicate corruption.
In so far as May 13, Kampung Medan and the Suqiu appeals cases are concerned, wouldn't it be better to let our young people know the truth? In any incident there must be someone or a situation that started it and I am sure a truthful chronology of events can be useful.
Thus a thorough academic study would certainly bring out the truth in those cases and blame apportioned. Personally, I would prefer that our young people should know the full history of inter-ethnic relations from the very day the Chinese and Indians came to this country.
