The OIC summit in Kuala Lumpur last week issued a 'Putrajaya Statement' demanding so many things from the Israeli government but failed in issuing a single statement calling the other perpetrator of this war - the Hezbollah - to end the violence simultaneously.

This is what we call seeing the war from an Islamic perspective. The Islamic countries now fully support Hezbollah though it was the latter's unjustified actions that brought upon the Lebanese people this fruitless war and destruction.

The war is also because of the failure of the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah, letting them to run a state within a state in Lebanon. Where on earth is an entire militant army allowed to operate legally within a sovereign territory but Lebanon?

I do not support the Israeli actions but the root question of this war is not being addressed. The Hezbollah is firing rockets and missiles into the Israeli territory and killing civilians. Why is there no call from the OIC summit to end that and confine the war to soldiers in uniform?

In short, the recent 'talk shop' in Kuala Lumpur was a failure because there were no concrete calls to end this war. This instead was left to the US, UK and all the other big powers.

The OIC never suggested for itself to be at the forefront and negotiate an end but wants to commit suicide by sending its troops to the war-torn region. I oppose any move to commit the men in uniform of this country to that region.

I don't wish to see many flag-draped coffins returning from there. The protection of our nationhood is more important than letting our soldiers die in a battle which is not ours.
